A learner permit is a licence issued to learner drivers. It enables them to learn to drive. If you got your learner permit after 5 April 2011, you will have to wait 6 months before you apply a driving test and you will be required to sit 12 EDT lessons.
In order to be issued with your learner permit you need to sit a theory test for Category B (Car)
This is a computerised test comprising of 40 multiple choice questions, and to pass you need to score 35/40.
You need to have two passport photos and a birth certificate or passport with you on the day of the theory test. See http://www.theorytest.ie/ or lo call 1890 606 106
Once you pass the theory test you will be issued with a theory test certificate , you then need to complete Learner Permit Application Form D201, this can be downloaded from RSA website and bring application into your local NDLS office with the completed application and the relevant fee of €35. http://www.ndls.ie/images/Documents/LearnerPermits/D201_Learner_Permit_app_form.pdf
